Literature. The protagonist is at a meeting where his opponent has delivered a damning

Keywords:

speech, but the protagonist gets up and "ejerció de sí mismo", giving a brilliant speech in his own defense. "Cuando cesaron los vítores, P se levantó, calmado y seguro, y ejerció de sí mismo. Primero templó los ánimos con su voz grave y vibrante."

to act smart.

It always help to use the RAE for the Spanish term.

ejerce de rico: to act rich. etc. etc.

I find I always learn something using the RAE, and this usage of ejercer I was not familiar with...
