My comment:

While I agree with Clara, "entorpecer" just sounds more awkward/unconfortable to me than "affected", as that has the added connotation of also being "sad/unhappy".

My comment:

I read once that, although a lot of people consider that relation and relationship are equivalents, relationship should be reserved for kinship and relation for the other meanings. In this context which also deals with relatives I prefer to avoid the ambiguity.
