So many reasons why the man in your life should go buy it for you.

My comment:

It's just a rehash of previous suggestions so the credit should go to the people who inspired me to write this. The French sentence is slightly awkward, and I see why some started a new sentence.

Yes, but isn't this over-translating? We don't know who "il" is, and there is no reason to include the word "special".

martynback  See profile wrote:

No, I don't think so. This is silly fashion copy - the "il" in the text clearly refers (very sexist) to the man who will be giving you these wonderful trousers.

actually, so many good reasons why he should make it a gift for you

My comment:

A gift (rather than offer) sounds more like a slogan in a commercial. besides the "it" gefore enhances the product.

make it a gift???

Jennifer White  See profile wrote:

Make it a gift is not so different from Martinback's suggestion (make this a special gift). I don't understand your astonishment. And her suggestion sounds more like a slogan than yours.

Jennifer White  See profile wrote:

No offence meant. But as a native English speaker I would say that "make it a gift" is really not how we would express it. Have never heard that expression. Martyn's phrasing is somehow more acceptable here.

..also, this is not a slogan, just marketing description........

Marie-Claire  See profile wrote:

I agree with Jennifer. "Make it a gift" might be suitable in a legal context maybe. If we could drop "for you," which is almost irrelevant and self-explanatory, we could avoid a translation that's too wordy and make it sound more English. I have not found the solution yet. Native speakers have an advantage here...
