ABSENT

My comment:

absent with a reason. See : http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=1626733 and http://www.univ-paris1.fr/fileadmin/UFR_04/GUIDE_UFR_2013-2014_pour_site_Internet.pdf

students missing assessments

My comment:

absent

My comment:

from the 3 you present, definitely ¨absent¨. but I would present it as "a student failing to attend the exam" (in your example). I think that fits much better.

According to the definition of some French universities, it is a student who was absent once during an exam or at least three times during "TD's" (practical) and who has to compensate for it in order to have a course unit validated.
