Word or term in question:

amenée par le reflux de la Wehrmacht

Context:

I think I had to translate the image of "reflux"

Or: Marooned there by the retreating Wehrmacht. Retreating rather than withdrawing, since a withdrawal can be provisional before a counter-attack whereas a retreat is definitive. Marrooned translates both the idea of a flow and that of leaving sb in a place.

There's no to-ing and fro-ing here. The Germans are retreating because the allied forces are going to win the war. It's a one-way ticket back home for the Germans!!!
