My comment:

My comment:

My references:

Experiencia de mi juventud. Mi padre los fumaba.

What happened to the frog? The frog is at least as important as the Woodbines in evoking the idea of a "croaking" voice.

My comment:

My comment:

"like a frog on forty woodbines" is an expression only used in the U.S. so you would have to change it to 40 machines needing oil or very scratchy like nails down a blackboard. It is a simile used in the language of Mark Twain.

cuarenta Woodbines diarios

My comment:

En lenguaje figurado "I've got a frog in my throat" significa tengo carraspera.

My references:

Woodbines is a brand of cigarette made in England by W. D. & H. O. Wills. Noted for its strong unfiltered cigarettes, the brand was popular in the early 20th century, especially with soldiers during World War I and World War II. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodbine_(Cigarette_brand)

My comment:

My comment:

Woodbines are a make of cigarettes. You could leave the name or change it to a Spanish Brand of cigarettes like Ducado.
