Kate (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Subject:

Other

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

repartir sur des bases saines

Context:

Concernant lui, je souhaite m'expliquer avec lui de vive voix

Keywords:

repartir sur des bases saines. I think this means something like "get back on solid ground", but wondering if there is a better way to say that in UK English? I guess he wants to get back in the guy's good graces, though I don't think it's only that. thx in advance

The asker rated this answer best

Get back to proper place

to start off again on sane terms

My comment:

For speech or spoken language.

saines is really SANE here....literally, healthy, not crazy....

Please note: you will not find this in a dictionary necessarily...

to start up again on a sound basis (a solid ground)

to get back on solid ground/ to clear the air and start afresh on solid foundations/to start again on a healthy basis.

My comment:

To dispel differences or emotional tensions.
