From the segment I get the sensation that she has been putting all of herself without restraints on the piece she's writing so she likens it to riding wildly on a horse.

Ran rampant

My comment:

I've heard a few similar phases in Argentina, meaning that the person ran around without concern or with little control. I think "ran rampant" might best fit the tone of the text.
