Maybe the best option was to put on a brave face in front of everyone else

My comment:

Without more context it is difficult to be sure about who is the reference of "el resto del mundo". If it is the general public (e.g. for someone famous) then "in front of the outside world" or "the best option was to put on a brave public face and....", whereas I think if referring to people known to the subject (e.g. friends/family) then "everyone else" fits well.

My references:

http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/put+on+a+brave+face

put on a brave face
to act confident in a difficult situation put up a brave front The engineers have put on a brave face, saying the telescope can easily be repaired.
Usage notes: sometimes used in the form put a brave face on something: She puts a brave face on everything, but you know that she is worried.

Surely he took his time deciding whether to carry flowers. Perhaps the best impression he could make would be for him to make a total life change.

Perhaps it was the most correct thing to do, in the eyes of the rest of the world

My comment:

It's used quite often (as in the case of " ella trabajaba de cara al público" or "she worked lmost the sain the public eye") to express how things appear to the 'outsider' or public, rather than one's self.

perhaps it was the best attitude to have towards the rest of the world

My comment:

i give a neutral translation because I don't know who and/or what the flowers are for, what sort of change in the character's life people are going to suspect.
