Kate (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Subject:

General

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

porteurs de pêchés

Context:

les gens marginalisés sont considérés comme porteurs de pêchés

literally, this means something like "bearers of sin" or "sinners", though that doesn't quite fit here, this is more idiomatic

Keywords:

thx

guilty of some wrongdoing in the past

My comment:

My impression is that the marginalised are thought to have brought their misfortune upon themselves by having transgressed in some way.

sinners or Decalogue breachers

My comment:

As simple as that "marginalised people or persons are considered to be sinners' - another translation could be "Decalogue breachers' as in those who disrespect the Ten Commandments

bearers of sin

My comment:

"bearer of sin" is perfectly idiomatic: Google it for plenty of examples.

thought of as having to bear the brunt of their sins

My comment:

Interesting question. But marginalized people are often that way due to no fault of their own.
