Barbara R Cochran (a guest user) asked this question:

Language pair:

French > English

Subject:

Business / Marketing / Financial

Level of diffculty:

Easy / medium

Word or term in question:

Talking about the Nazi agents who bought up artwork in Paris during WWII.

Something like "arbitrary value of the deutschmark, whose rate of exchange...?"

fictitious value of the mark

My comment:

As for souvenir lovers, who used their occupancy balance, they were favored by the fictitious value of the mark, the official parity of which had been set at 20 francs, when in reality it was only worth half of it. But, in the mass of transactions carried out by the Reich, this was of very little importance.
