as if by ineluctable divine intervention
My comment:
I included the word "divine" as the union is essentially spiritual. On the other hand, the word "ineluctable" may be a bit over the top

as if by inevitable coincidence/chance
My comment:
As if by inevitable chance/coincidence, the mystical MARRIAGE of SAINT CATHERINE and the CALVAIRE of Mantegna arrived together in Louvigny, inseparable and different like two sides of the same religious medal.

I agree. If it were "hasard" alone, there might be a different connotation (maybe "coincidence" or "chance"), but the combination of "hasard inévitable" can't really have much other of a connotation than the idea of "fate".

Haha I don't know - I think I'd leave it at that. In any case (being a contrary soul) I'd argue it's a pleonasm - chance is inevitable...when it happens!
